With almost three decades in the hospitality sector, I can assert that few hotels adhere to a comprehensive reporting policy. Typically, each user applies their individual logic, nullifying the efforts of previous users and influencing all aspects. Reports should follow a specific logic determined by senior management, and all users should adhere to it, even in disagreement. This ensures a logical consistency in reports, even when the accuracy might be in question.
Of course, the accurate input of data necessitates a Property Management System (PMS), but that is a subject for the upcoming post. Through the proper structuring of reports, we gain insights that are instrumental in drawing conclusions that will significantly impact our hotel's revenue.
